Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD) is an opportunity for communities across the country to recognize, respect, and support the men and women who serve in law enforcement. Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was established in 2015, when multiple organizations came together to promote positive engagement between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. The goal of LEAD is simple but meaningful: to remind officers that their service, sacrifice, and commitment to public safety are recognized and appreciated.
The observance gained momentum following the events of 2014, when national attention surrounding officer-involved incidents led to heightened scrutiny and negativity toward law enforcement. In response, organizations such as Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) worked to shift the conversation toward support, respect, and understanding for officers and their families.
With more than 900,000 law enforcement officers in the United States, many of whom face high-risk situations and difficult decisions daily, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day serves as a reminder of the importance of community support—especially during challenging times.
