Five ways you can show support on Memorial Day 2020

It’s easy to think of Memorial Day as the start of summer. Pools open, retailers have big sales and it’s a time to celebrate with friends. This year things look different on Memorial Day. As we change our weekend plans and feel remorse for our lifestyle kinks, it’s a good time to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial Day is designated as a day to honor all servicemembers who have honorably served and died in active duty. For families who have lost someone close to them, the Memorial Day ceremonies with large crowds is a reminder to them that their loved one will not be forgotten.

So how do we show our support when many of the country is asked not to gather? Here are five ways to show support.

  1. Participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day. Pause at 3 p.m. and hold a minute of silence to remember the fallen on Memorial Day. Consider starting a new tradition of offering a toast to the fallen.
  2. Fly your flag. This is an excellent way to show your support. If you don’t have a flag, consider buying a few small American flags and put one in your yard. If you live in an apartment, put a flag in a window or door.
  3. If you are more action focused you can participate in one of the many virtual run/walks. Or consider making a donation https://nationalvmm.org/donations/make-a-gift/ or find a local community organization that supports families of fallen service members.
  4. Share a name or story about a fallen hero on social media. If you don’t personally know someone, do some research online and find a story to share.
  5. Offer support. Remember that military families that have lost loved ones, current and past service members who have lost friends in battle might be having a hard time. Give a call or send a message to let them know you are thinking about them.

It is still important to have fun this weekend. Remember how thankful we should be for everything that we do have, everything that many have scarified their lives to for. Make the precious gift they have given to us worth it.

Caliber Armor we would like to say thank you to those men and women who paid the ultimate price. We will always remember the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes. We are deeply grateful.
